Free · The Field Guide Starter

You know your business needs to show up online. But what do you actually need to know?

The Field Guide Starter is a practical introduction to marketing your business online. What matters, what is worth sharing, and how the pieces start to fit together. It’s written for people who know their business, but want a clearer understanding of how to present it online.

This field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.

Six pages. Free. It lands in your inbox straight away.

What The Field Guide Starter is

It is the short version of how we think about marketing.

Most advice starts by telling you what to post. This starts a step earlier, with what your customers are actually working out about your business, what you have already got that is worth showing them, and what each piece of marketing is for.

Once that makes sense, the rest gets easier. What goes on the website. What to say at a field day. What is worth putting up this week.

It takes about twenty minutes to read and you will want a pen.

Who it is for

  • Anyone running an agricultural or regional business who knows they need to be online and is not sure what that actually means
  • People who have been told to post more and can feel that it is not the whole answer
  • Businesses that are excellent at the work and quiet about it
  • Anyone who has sat down to write something about their own business and gone blank
  • People who met us at a workshop or a field day and want the short version first

You do not need to know any marketing to use it. There is no jargon in it, and where a term matters we explain it.

What is inside

The four questions

The four things a customer is quietly working out before they ever contact you. Can they find you, do they understand what you do, do they trust you, and is it relevant to them. These four questions help you work out where your marketing might need more attention, and what to do next.

The quick win

Five questions about what actually happened in your business this week. It is the part that shows you how much you already have to work with.

Give it a job

Every piece of marketing should be doing something. This section shows you how to sort what you have found into whether it teaches, shows or proves, so you are publishing on purpose rather than out of obligation.

Put it to work

A six-step run through of taking one story and getting it out into the world. Plus the phrases that make someone stop and read, and a short piece on handing the repetitive parts to AI while keeping the part that sounds like you.

What you will understand by the end

  • What your customers are actually assessing when they look you up
  • Why what feels ordinary inside your business is often the most useful thing you have
  • What each piece of marketing is for
  • Where to put your time and attention first

Why we made it

We spend a lot of time inside businesses asking questions. And often, the things worth sharing aren’t the things people think of as marketing. They’re the knowledge, decisions, people, processes and everyday work that make the business what it is.

The Starter helps you begin to see those things for yourself.

What happens after you press the button

1. It arrives straight away. The guide is on screen the moment you sign up, and a copy lands in your inbox. If it is not there in a few minutes, check your junk folder and mark us as safe.

2. We send you a few useful follow-ups. A little more practical guidance to help you put what you have read into practice.

3. That is it. No calls, no chasing.

The Starter shows you the shape of it. The Field Guides go deeper.

The Starter is the overview. It gives you enough to see how marketing fits together and to make a start.

The Field Guide series takes it one stage at a time, so you can go further into whichever part your business needs next.

Know  Know what you stand for.

Shape  Shape how you’re seen.

Find  Find what’s worth sharing.
